Frequently Asked Questions
How often can parents use Tuition Flex?

Tuition Flex is currently available to members twice per calendar year at no cost.

If you'd like to offer parents year-round access, Kina can partner directly with your school to create a custom program.

What happens if a parent doesn't repay the amount covered by Tuition Flex?

If the member doesn’t repay the amount by the agreed date, their Kina rewards points will be frozen for redemption, and access to Tuition Flex will be paused until the balance is repaid. There are no legal liabilities.

Do parents pay tuition directly through Kina?

Similar to other membership programs (i.e., United MileagePlus), users must first sign up for a loyalty member account with Kina to receive points.

Kina integrates with your school's billing system, allowing parents to earn points, pay tuition, and activate features like Tuition Flex seamlessly.

For schools using third-party software, Kina can work with or without integration.

Does Kina replace our existing payment processor?

No. Kina is simply an additional payment option for parents who:

1. See the benefits of having access to Tuition Flex.

2. Like to pay tuition with a credit card without the hefty 2.5%-3% fee.

There is no mandatory requirement for parents to sign up for the Kina loyalty program.

Which bank is behind Kina?

JP Morgan Chase is the official operating bank partner for Kina.

Is there an additional cost for schools to join Kina?

No, there are no additional costs to join Kina.

How does Kina make money?

Similar to most loyalty programs, we generate revenue in two main ways:

  • When Kina members shop within our partner network, we earn a commission.
  • For Kina credit card holders, we earn an interchange fee on all non-tuition transactions.

What’s the main difference between Kina card and other credit cards?
Schools often face a 3% payment processing fee when accepting tuition payments via credit card. This costs either parents (when passed on as a surcharge) or schools directly, amounting to $500 to $1,000 in additional fees per student each year.

With the Kina Credit Card:

1) No Fees for Schools: Schools pay no processing fees when accepting the Kina card for tuition payments.

2) Designed for Parents: Unlike any other credit card, Kina is built for parents. Cardholders earn 1x on tuition payments, 2x on summer camp, and up to 8x on parenting expenses—all at no cost to them.

Just as Wells Fargo launched the Bilt Rewards card to help renters pay rent at 4 million properties nationwide without the 3% fee, Kina will be the first credit card purpose-built for tuition payments.
